n Architecture Inc. was commissioned to design the Peace House Retreat & Conference Centre, located at 918 Moonstone Road East in Oro Medonte, Ontario. The project is initiated by an organization dedicated to missions, outreach, and long-term engagement with the Indigenous and the First Nations communities across Canada. At its core, the Peace House Retreat & Conference Centre is envisioned as a place of welcome, healing, learning, and cultural exchange, with a particular focus on supporting the Indigenous children, youth, and young adults from surrounding reserves and communities throughout Ontario.
The vision for the Peace House Retreat & Conference Centre includes the creation of a serene, multi-purpose facility that accommodates retreats, conferences, and seasonal camping programs. Designed to operate year-round, the centre will host winter and summer programs that encourage personal growth, leadership development, cultural connection, and community building. Set within a natural and peaceful landscape, the facility is intended to provide a safe and inclusive environment where participants can gather, reflect, and build meaningful relationships.
The proposed development is situated on a 76.13-acre site and will include retreat spaces, administrative offices, chalets, meeting rooms, and workshop facilities. The building is organized using a radial layout that responds sensitively to the surrounding landscape while promoting clarity, accessibility, and a sense of unity. The central atrium forms the heart of the facility, with retreat rooms, chalets, meeting areas, and communal spaces radiating outward. This configuration enhances in-site circulation, allows for functional zoning, and maintains strong visual and social connections throughout the building.
The design emphasizes openness and connection to nature. Framed views, generous natural lighting, sloped rooflines, and horizontal planes reinforce the radial geometry while grounding the building within its natural context. The layout supports both communal gathering and individual reflection, aligning with the project’s purpose as a place of peace and renewal.
A Pre-Consultation Application for the Peace House Retreat & Conference Centre was submitted in December 2024, marking the first formal step toward realizing this vision. The facility will be designed with a strong emphasis on wellness, functionality, and environmental stewardship, ensuring alignment with regional planning policies, community values, and long-term sustainability goals.
Overall, the Peace House Retreat & Conference Centre represents a meaningful investment in inclusive community infrastructure. The project demonstrates a commitment to reconciliation, the Indigenous inclusion, and the creation of thoughtful spaces that foster healing, learning, and connection, contributing positively to the Indigenous communities, the First Nations people, and the broader Oro Medonte region.
